So you’re getting braces to enhance your smile? Congratulations! Braces are a great tool to redesigning your smile and making your oral structures more functional, but they do have their hindrances and food is a big one!
In this blog post, we’ll be looking at the kind of food you should be eating while in braces and the type of food to avoid so you see the results you want.
Foods you can eat while having braces:
It would be best if you went for foods that are on the softer side to ensure that your teeth don’t need to do a lot of chewing and risk bending your braces.
Let’s start with meats, fruits and vegetables. Yes, eat a lot of fresh vegetables but try to steam them first. Also, eat soft fruits like naartjies, oranges kiwi, and watermelon. You can eat soft meat like turkey or tender chicken, or go for seafood or eggs in place of tough-to-chew meats, like steak.
When it comes to carbs, pancakes, muffins, soft biscuits, and tortillas are not too hard and will not hurt your teeth. Try to stay away from bread with hard crusts or toasted bread.
Soft cheeses and yoghurts are fine if you eat dairy products. Smoothies, ice cream, and custard make excellent desserts. And feel free to eat well-cooked grains like pasta and rice.
Braces won’t stop you from enjoying all the foods that you like. Ensure you’re receiving your daily allowance of nutrients and create a healthy meal plan with all the foods we’ve mentioned above. The most important thing is to ensure that the food you’re eating isn’t too hard. Hard foods will stress your teeth and damage your braces.
Apart from being picky about the kind of food that you consume, you should try to maintain a healthy dental regimen – brush and floss regularly, drink a lot of water and use a soft-bristled toothbrush.
